The purpose of a personal website is for people to display their work in a professional matter. They can show off portfolios of their photography, writing, art, fashion, music, and so much more. Personal websites are meant for people to view in order to gain potential clients, or gain respect in their field. It is important that personal websites accurately depict what their purpose is in order to keep their audience intrigued. They should be creative, organized and pleasing for viewers to look at. The purpose of my website is to display how my writing skills have improved over the course of taking English 1301. You will find my work on our three Learning Units. These consist of a summary of John Pekin’s article, “A Community College Professor Reflects on First-Year Composition”, a rhetorical analysis of that same article, and finally, a discussion about Discourse Communities that I have been involved in and will be involved in. In the summary, I discuss what Professor John Pekins believes about the current state of the English 1301 course. In the rhetorical analysis, I discuss how Pekins wants to fix the flaws associated with the course, and how he effectively argues how the course could be redesigned. In the final essay about Discourse Communities, I talk about my past Discourse Community, drill team, and what I learned from it. I then continue to connect that to my future Discourse Community, which is Screenwriting and Film Production. All three of these assignments contextualize how I have improved as a writer and they all discuss similar concepts. They share a common theme over how writing is such an important aspect of life in today’s world. No matter what job someone has, they must be able to write in a professional, intellectual matter that effectively summarizes ideas. My essays successfully discuss the importance of writing and I hope that they will inform readers on how this task is so vital for people.
